In our recent Women's Brunch, Leslie Rowe spoke on the
"Top Ten Tips for Getting Fine New Wine Out of the Winepress".
By Leslie Rowe, as told to the Women in Touch luncheon guests, February 2010
Background: the premise is that the WINEPRESS are the things in life that adversely press upon our bodies, souls, and spirits. The NEW WINE represents provision to sons and priests (Old Test) and the fullness of the Spirit (New Test)…or “every part of God’s presence in every area of your life.” The goal of the winepress is to produce new wine. “Poetic license:” God is the Master Winemaker; circumstances are the big feet that press us, and “I am a grape, you are a grape, we are all grapes together.” So…
"Pick me, squeeze me, make me wine!"
1. Start with the right kind of grape: no sour grapes, no grapes of wrath. (Sin done to me: hurt, pain, etc. Sin done by me: guilt, shame, etc. Take both to the cross.)
2. Get rid of sticks and seeds: sin and scissors
3. Choose a solid barrel: right relationships with God and others, right church
4. Don't jump out of the barrel: fight the good fight of faith; don't give up. Be of good courage.
5. Cooperate with the master winemaker: Serinity prayer, not my will but your be done!
6. Let the winemaker BE the winemaker: don't play God; don't control
7. Don't BLAME the big feet and don't blame the other grapes: Our fight isn't with our circumstances or with other people. Got problems with circumstances or people? Take it up witht the winemaker.
8. Stick tight with the other grapes: Community. Authenticity. Free to be me. We need each other.
9. Fine wine takes time: Be patient. They that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength.
10. Take part in the celebration: The joy of the Lord is your strength. Ask Him for joy with #9. Wait upon the Lord to renew your JOY.
